Diet & Nutrition - Cats

Proper diet and nutrition can bolster you cat's immune system, increase his level of energy, contribute to a healthy coat of fur, and counter act the effects of stress on your cat.

Proper diet and nutrition can reduce or eliminate problems that may be dietary or physical but are mistaken for stress-related problems. For example, your cat may resume using his litter box when you eliminate

foods containing ash from your cat’s diet because his urinary tract infection will heal. Dry, itchy skin can be a stress-related problem, but it can also be a dietary problem. Sometimes just adding a teaspoon of olive oil or flaxseed oil into your cat’s food can reduce the dryness of his skin.

Cats are obligate carnivores. This means their diet should consist entirely of meat. Cat food should have as little filler as possible. Avoid cat foods containing ash and corn. Corn is indigestible and ash causes urinary tract problems in your cat.

If your cat doesn’t seem to be eating a proper diet, ask your vet about nutritional supplements.
