Exercise - Birds - General Information

Exercise is just as important for birds as it is for any other animal. Birds that don't get enough exercise will often display signs of stress such as plucking their own feathers out, biting their owners, and behaving erratically.

Unfortunately, most bird cages are just too small. Even though the pet store may have recommended a certain size cage, these cages aren’t really large enough for birds to really flap their wings and fly around. A less expensive alternative to buying a new cage is to let your bird out of his cage. Let him fly around the room each day and then put the bird back in his cage. Keep him contained in one part of the house, so you don’t have any trouble getting him back in the cage or risk him flying out the front door.

You may be surprised how differently your bird behaves after you start letting him spread his wings and really fly.
