Aggression, Biting, Scratching
Question: I don't understand why my bird bites me now. I used to be able to hold him.
Answer: The number one problem bird owners complain about is biting. Birds usually bite if they have not been held by their owners for a long time. The bird is not accustomed to having the owner place a hand in the cage and has to be reacquainted with this activity.
Here's how to gently re-habituate the bird to being held: Make a fist, and slowly put your fist in the cage. The bird is going to check your fist with his beak to make sure that it's a solid perch. The bird may look like he's going to bite but he won't. Don't jerk your hand away when the bird checks it with his beak. Once you re-establish trust between you and your bird it will stop biting you and will have a stronger and closer bond with each other.
